weather service has issued urgent warnings. kansas city is expecting 9 to 15 inches of snow tonight into tuesday. the same system just left a blanket of white over much of colorado, cancelling hundreds of flights out of denver international on sunday. sam brownback is calling for drivers to stay off the road in his state. and he has worries this storm has the potential to be more dangerous. jennifer delgado live for us now. how bad is it this morning? >> it seems like we always are talking about some type of winter storm. you're right. we're talking about dangerous conditions setting up. you see the blizzard warning in place. across kansas, texas, new mexico, as well as missouri. we're going to see the winds really picking up as we go later into the afternoon and the evening hours. that means visibility is really going to be down. overall, we have about 17 states that are under some type of winter weather warning advisory. and it is going to be a bad one out there. look what's happening right now. we already are seeing storms moving through central texas, as well as that snow workin

, kansas, not nashville, tennessee. in kansas city, they picked up 9.2 inches of snowfall. you can still see it for areas like nebraska, minnesota and into wisconsin. chicago, you've picked up about .81 inches of snowfall. that's welcomed but still not a lot. looking at a wintry mix from this last storm system, bringing some of that through to west virginia, ohio, and down through the south our other story is going to be flooding. we'll talk more about that flooding over the next couple of days. see these numbers up towards areas like in minnesota, three inches of snow. down toward regions like tennessee, even into georgia, we're going to see potentially three to six inches of rainfall. you see a line of storms moving through and this is going to continue to pile up. and this means worry going to be dealing with a flood threat over the next couple of days. there's also a chance for some winter weather to move through parts of the northeast. it looks like some new watches and advisories were just issued. it looks like in some locations we could pick up about six inches of snowfall. some l

than 14 inches of snow fell in wichita. only one other storm in the city's history was worse. that was more than 50 years ago. >> let's go to wichita. how are people dealing with this much snow? >> reporter: well, most schools and universities in kansas and missouri are closed today. businesses throughout the region were closed all yesterday. they opened a lot later today. and the kansas government also started a little later today, around 10:00. usually they're in earlier. but here is the warning that the kansas officials sent out to residents. this is pretty good. please clear off hoods and roofs of your vehicles before driving. of course you don't want big chunks of snow obstructing your vision, but all the roads are open and they're pretty clear today. >> we know kansas, missouri declared states of emergency. do you have a lot of folks stranded on the roads? >> reporter: there were some. the national guard patrolled about 800 miles of roads throughout kansas. they helped about 70 stranded cars. the good news is that there was zero deaths, 106 accidents, 15 injury, but peo
, mayor sam jones, has just jumped in there and done everything we can through the city to support this. >> wow, that's great news. >> we've had so many people to support this. hat's such great news because i would imagine these are 4,000 people who really need that support. what kinds of donations are you ke getting? what are people in the community offering up for the people coming off the ship? >> well, christkrispy kreme is thing in the south. so they're bringing ningz and coca-cola is bringing drinks in. there's a lot of people but we're going to have a kate e can with hot food. and carnival has stepped up the pace and brought in a lot of -- they're the ones bringing in the hot food. carnival is doing everything they can. i say everything they can to make it a pleasurable experience once they get there. >> they haven't eaten hot food or good food in a little while. do you have medical folks coming in as well? especially i would imagine for people who are elderly and for people who are disabled on that ship, you know, there have got to be some serious -- potentially serious problems
